I have a question about my 12 year old daughter. We have recently noticed that she has an under bite, her Dentist confirmed this. He recommended an Orthodontist and possibly braces to correct this problem. Then I took her for a check up with her Surgeon- she was bitten in the face by a dog in July, under her nose and thru her lips, he recommended a Cranio Surgeon to correct the problem. Which would be better?

Thank you for visiting our web site and for your excellent question! I certainly advise you to begin your endeavor with a visit to an Orthodontist. Though jaw surgery MAY be necessary to correct some of the underbite, braces will still be necessary to re-align the teeth properly. Because of this, it will be important to find and Orthodontist AND Maxillo-facial Surgeon who work well together. I wish your daughter the best of luck.
